Construction Complete: Wood Panel Walls & Ceilings
As specialists in Residential Construction, we are aware of what is trendy year by year in home design. Trendy by definition is “very fashionable or up to date in style or influence.” Basically, styles and fashions that come and go. It is a fantastic concept because it keeps perspectives fresh and new from year to year.
Let us take tongue and groove pine walls and ceilings for instance, which is what we will feature here today. Tongue and groove are wooden planking in which adjacent boards are joined by means of interlocking ridges and grooves down their sides. The knotty pine board for interiors was extremely popular in the late 40’s through the early 60’s, and slowly became less common as new materials were made and as the years progressed. It was inexpensive, durable, and an attractive DIY material at a time when families left unfinished rooms until enough money was saved to finish them.
Pine is a wood native to North America. The particular pine shown (above/below) is a Gorman Pine Tongue and Groove. In business since the early 1950’s, Gorman boasts the highest grade of Premium #2 lumber:
- Fine milling
- Small knot grade
- Slow drying
- Different patterns and package sizes
- Edges are smooth and splinter resistant
Adding tongue and groove planks to a ceiling can have a dramatic impact on a room. Wood plank ceilings can also change the feel of a rooms size. As in this case, the loft is wonderfully accented with a cozy feel and yet makes the house look so much bigger. Before installation, our in-house finishing crew first sprayed these boards with a sanding sealer. Next, 2 coats of “Dull Rub” varnish was used as a “top coat.”
We believe wood is always a great choice.
- 100% renewable
- 100% recyclable
- 100% biodegradable
- The least amount of energy to extract
- The least amount of energy to manufacture
Wood has the lowest environmental negative impact in:
- Water pollution
- Greenhouse gas emissions
- Solid waste to landfills
